Flight Time In Tailwheel Aircraft

A lot of training today is done at low weight on generously sized, evenly paved runways without terrain obstruction, tricky winds, sloping terrain, or challenging surface construction.

In general, flight training lacks the in-depth, practical experience crucial for the safety of the missionary pilot and his passengers. Furthermore, almost all training takes place in tricycle gear airplanes which are easier to take-off and land than tail-wheel aircraft.

We prefer to use a tail-wheel aircraft for building flight time in order to emphasize the need for awareness of proper action in rudder, elevator, brake, power, and aileron control.

Even though more mission organizations are using tricycle gear airplanes today, the tail-wheel trained pilot will gain valuable and worthwhile experience that will build a strong foundation and carry over into the next airplane flown in his mission aviation career.
